Xylem is the complex tissue of plants, responsible for transporting water and other nutrients to the plants. Phloem is living tissue, responsible for transporting food and other organic materials. ... Phloem transports food materials that are prepared by the green parts of the plants to other parts of the plant.

What does phloem have that xylem does not?

Xylem is formed by tracheary elements like tracheids and vessels predominantly. There are a variety of other cells giving it the status of complex tissue. ... Phloem has sieve tubes, companion cells, bast fibers as its elements.

What is the difference between xylem and phloem transport in plants?

Xylem is a conducting tissue that is responsible for the transport of water while phloem is a conducting tissue that is responsible for the transport of food in plants. Xylem transports soluble minerals and water molecules. Phloem transports food and other nutrients like sugar and amino acids.

What is the difference between xylem and phloem?

Xylem is the complex tissue of plants, responsible for transporting water and other nutrients to the plants. Phloem is living tissue, responsible for transporting food and other organic materials.

What is the difference between xylem and?

Xylem carries water and minerals from the roots to the leaves. Whereas, phloem carries the food prepared by the leaves to different parts of the plant.

Difference between Xylem and Phloem

Why do plants need xylem and phloem?

Plants have tissues to transport water, nutrients and minerals. Xylem transports water and mineral salts from the roots up to other parts of the plant, while phloem transports sucrose and amino acids between the leaves and other parts of the plant.

What is the difference between xylem and phloem Brainly?

Xylem carries water and minerals from the roots to the leaves. Whereas, phloem carries the food prepared by the leaves to different parts of the plant.

What is function of xylem and phloem?

The xylem distributes water and dissolved minerals upward through the plant, from the roots to the leaves. The phloem carries food downward from the leaves to the roots. Xylem cells constitute the major part of a mature woody stem or root.

Why xylem and phloem are complex tissues?

Xylem and phloem are vascular tissues. They bring about the conduction of water, minerals and food to different plant parts. ... Xylem and phloem are made of different cell types, who come together to perform a common function, hence they are called complex tissues.

What is the function of xylem and phloem Brainly?

Xylem carries water and minerals from the roots to the leaves while Phloem carries sugar & other organic nutrients made by plant from the leaves to the rest of the plant.

What is the main function of xylem?

Xylem is the specialised tissue of vascular plants that transports water and nutrients from the plant–soil interface to stems and leaves, and provides mechanical support and storage. The water-conducting function of xylem is one of the major distinguishing features of vascular plants.

What is the difference between xylem and phloem Class 9?

Xylem is made up of dead cells (parenchyma is the only living cell present in the xylem). Phloem is mainly made up of living cells (fibers are the only dead cells in the phloem). Xylem contains Xylem vessels, fiber and tracheids.

What is the similarity between xylem and phloem?

The cell wall is made up of cellulose of both xylem and phloem. Both contain chloroplast. Both contain vascular tissue, which helps in transportation of material throughout the plant. Both xylem and phloem contain parenchymatous cells.

What is the difference between epidermis and bark?

Bark is outer covering of plant made of schlerenchyma. Epidermis is the inner layer of the bark.

Why do growing shoots need sugar?

Plants need an energy source to grow. ... Sugars produced in sources, such as leaves, need to be delivered to growing parts of the plant via the phloem in a process called translocation, or movement of sugar. The points of sugar delivery, such as roots, young shoots, and developing seeds, are called sinks.

Do all plants have xylem and phloem?

Most plants have xylem and phloem and are known as vascular plants but some more simple plants, such as mosses and algae, do not have xylem or phloem and are known as non-vascular plants. ... Xylem tissue is used mostly for transporting water from roots to stems and leaves but also transports other dissolved compounds.

What is the function of xylem and phloem quizlet?

Xylem tissue transports water and mineral ions, phloem tissue transports dissolved substances like sugars. Xylem and phloem are found throughout the plant (they transport materials to all parts).

Why are xylem and phloem called complex tissues How are they different from one another Class 9?

Xylem and phloem are called complex tissues because they are not made up of one kind of cell. Different kinds of cells are joined to form the Xylem and Phloem. These cells work collectively in a coordinated manner. Xylem tissues help in the transportation of water and minerals from roots to the leaves.

What is the purpose of phloem?

While the main role of the phloem tissue is to transport carbohydrates from sources to sinks through the sieve elements, phloem is also composed of parenchyma cells, which play a key role in the storage of water, non-structural carbohydrates and storage proteins (Rosell 2016).

Why xylem is called dead tissue?

Xylem is called dead tissue or non-living tissue, because all the components present in this tissue are dead, except xylem parenchyma. The xylem tissues lack cell organelles, which are involved in storing and transporting more quantity of water with the plant cells.

What is the function of phloem vessel?

The main function of the phloem is to transport nutrients from the source where they are produced (e.g. the leaves through photosynthesis) to the sink (e.g. flowers and fruits) where they are used.

What is difference between plant tissue and animal tissue?

Cells of plant tissue have cell wall. Cells of animal tissue do not have cell wall. ... They are of four types muscle tissue, epithelial tissue, nervous tissue and connective tissue. These tissues require less energy and maintenance as plants do not require movement.

What are the living elements of xylem and phloem?

Answer : Living element of xylem: Xylem parenchyma. Living elements of phloem: Sieve tubes, companion cells, and phloem parenchyma.
