Complete Step by step solution The magnetic effect of electric current was discovered by Danish Physicist, Hans Christian ørsted (Oersted) in the year 1820.
Which scientist showed the how current carrying wire circular coil behaves like a magnet?
Electricity and Magnetism
A Danish scientist named Hans Christian Oersted (pictured in the Figure below) changed all that. He made the important discovery that electric current creates a magnetic field.
Who discovered electromagnetic induction?
The discovery of electromagnetic induction in the early part of the 19th century is one of the greatest scientific achievements of all time, and it has had tremendous technological consequences. The credit for this discovery rightfully goes to the great English experimental physicist Michael Faraday.

19 related questions foundWhich scientist is known for showing that a current carrying wire induces a magnetic field?
French physicist André Ampère developed a mathematical law to describe the magnetic forces between current carrying wires. Starting about a decade after Oersted's discovery, Michael Faraday demonstrated essentially the opposite of what Oersted had found–that a changing magnetic field induces an electric current.
Who discovered electric current?
Electricity was discovered and understood by many scientists. Benjamin Franklin is given the credit for discovering electricity. In the year 1752, Benjamin Franklin conducted an experiment using a kite and key on a rainy day.
Who studied the magnetic effect of electricity?
Hans Christian Oersted discovered the magnetic influence of the current in the year of 1820 and noticed that a wire carrying a current could deflect a magnetic needle.
WHO scientist contributed in developing equations that showed the electricity and magnetism?
James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879) was a Scottish scientist who made great contributions in the field of science and mathematics.
Who is Ampere and his contribution?
André-Marie Ampère, (born January 20, 1775, Lyon, France—died June 10, 1836, Marseille), French physicist who founded and named the science of electrodynamics, now known as electromagnetism. His name endures in everyday life in the ampere, the unit for measuring electric current.
Who showed experimental evidence of electromagnetic?
The German physicist Heinrich Hertz (1857–1894) was the first to generate and detect certain types of electromagnetic waves in the laboratory. Starting in 1887, he performed a series of experiments that not only confirmed the existence of electromagnetic waves, but also verified that they travel at the speed of light.
Who showed the experimental evidence of electromagnetic waves?
Heinrich Hertz was a brilliant German physicist and experimentalist who demonstrated that the electromagnetic waves predicted by James Clerk Maxwell actually exist.
Who showed experimental evidence?
7.3. 1 Introduction. Experimental evidence of the existence of multiple steady states was found in the 1930s by Semenov and Zel'dovich and by Frank-Kamenetskii (1969), who described these results in detail in his classical monograph.
Who is father of current?
Nikola Tesla is considered as the father of current.
What did Benjamin Franklin discover?
As a scientist, he was a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics for his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. As an inventor, he is known for the lightning rod, bifocals, and the Franklin stove, among other inventions.
How was current discovered?
In 1752, Ben Franklin conducted his experiment with a kite, a key, and a storm. This simply proved that lightning and tiny electric sparks were the same thing. ... Faraday's rather crude invention used a magnet that was moved inside a coil of copper wire, creating a tiny electric current that flowed through the wire.
Who discovered magnetic effect of electric current Class 7?
CBSE NCERT Notes Class 7 Physics Electric Current and its Effects. When an electric current passes through a wire, it behaves like a magnet. This magnetic effect of electric current is known as electromagnetic effect. Hans Christian Oersted (1777-1851) discovered magnetic effect of current in 1820.
Who proved that electromagnetic energy travel through the air?
This means that electromagnetic waves can travel not only through air and solid materials, but also through the vacuum of space. In the 1860's and 1870's, a Scottish scientist named James Clerk Maxwell developed a scientific theory to explain electromagnetic waves.
What is experimental evidence in psychology?
Experimental evidence is comprised of observations generated under controlled conditions rather than through other empirical research methods. Experimental evidence makes it possible for scholars to draw causal inferences about a phenomenon under study.
What is experimental evidence in biology?
Experimental evidence is used to confirm the answers in science. Results are validated (found truthful) when other scientists repeat experiments and come up with the same results. A history of evidence and validations show that the original statements were correct and accurate.
Who discovered radio waves?
Heinrich Hertz proved the existence of radio waves in the late 1880s. He used a spark gap attached to an induction coil and a separate spark gap on a receiving antenna.
Who is Maxwell and his contribution?
James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879) was one of the greatest scientists who have ever lived. To him we owe the most significant discovery of our age - the theory of electromagnetism. He is rightly acclaimed as the father of modern physics. He also made fundamental contributions to mathematics, astronomy and engineering.

Who is Jean Baptiste Biot and Felix Savart?
In 1820 he and the physicist Félix Savart discovered that the intensity of the magnetic field set up by a current flowing through a wire is inversely proportional to the distance from the wire. This relationship is now known as the Biot-Savart law and is a fundamental part of modern electromagnetic theory.
