Who introduced indirect ophthalmoscope?
Xavier Galezowski of Paris, France, who had invented his tubular indirect ophthalmoscope in 1862, designed a very different ophthalmoscope (Figure 11) 20 years later in 1882.

What is indirect ophthalmoscope?
The binocular indirect ophthalmoscope, or indirect ophthalmoscope, is an optical instrument worn on the examiner's head, and sometimes attached to spectacles, that is used to inspect the fundus or back of the eye. It produces an stereoscopic image with between 2x and 5x magnification.
Why is it called indirect ophthalmoscopy?
Ophthalmoscopy is a routine exam done by ophthalmologists to examine the inside of the back of the eye, also known as the fundus or the posterior segment. ... The process is “indirect” because the fundus is viewed through a hand held condensing lens.

A larger aperture light spot is used for a fully dilated pupil and intermediate and smaller apertures for a smaller or undilated pupil. Diffuse light filters and yellow filters make the illumination less bright and comfortable to the patient.
What is monocular indirect ophthalmoscope?
indirect ophthalmoscope An ophthalmoscope that provides an aerial image of the fundus (and not the fundus itself as with a direct ophthalmoscope), which is real, inverted, with a magnification of ✕5 to ✕7 and formed at approximately arm's length from the practitioner.
What is laser indirect ophthalmoscope?
Binocular laser indirect ophthalmoscopy (LIO), introduced in the early 1980s,1 is an essential tool for retinal specialists. For patients under general anesthesia, including pediatric or uncooperative patients, standard laser treatments using a slit lamp may be difficult and sometimes impossible.

What are retinas?
The retina is a layer of tissue in the back of your eye that senses light and sends images to your brain. In the center of this nerve tissue is the macula. It provides the sharp, central vision needed for reading, driving and seeing fine detail. Retinal disorders affect this vital tissue.
What is ophthalmoscope instrument?
The ophthalmoscope is the staple instrument of the optometrist. Introduced in the 1850s it was the first proper device for examining the interior of the human eye by means of a beam of light which illuminates otherwise invisible tissues.

When you have an eye checkup, you will likely undergo a slit lamp exam. You will usually have the slit lamp exam at an optometry or ophthalmology office. The exam is also called biomicroscopy. It allows the doctor to microscopically examine your eyes for any abnormalities or problems.
What is a bio optometry?
Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscopes (BIOs) allow optometrists and ophthalmologists to inspect the posterior segment of the eye for a comprehensive observation of the retina.
Which mirror is used in ophthalmoscope?
The ophthalmoscope consists of a concave mirror with an orifice at the center through which the viewer examines the eye. A light source is then reflected to the eye from the mirror.

Lasers are the best treatment for moderately to severely sun-damaged lips. They enable accurate destruction of the abnormal surface layers of the lip. Other less effective treatments for sun damage include creams (Efudix and Aldara) and photodynamic therapy (PDT).
What is indirect laser photocoagulation?
With the indirect ophthalmoscope system, an indirect lens is used to focus the laser light onto the retina. With the endolaser, a laser probe is introduced into the vitreous cavity (usually during vitrectomy surgery) and the laser light is directly applied to the retina.
What is photocoagulation of retina?
Retinal laser photocoagulation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat leaking blood vessels in the retina that stem from serious retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular edema. This procedure can also seal retinal tears.
