9. Which of the following can act as an alternative for blasting? Explanation: Blasting is the conventional method which is adopted in case of rock tunneling. In the case of fire-setting, tunnel is heated with fire and then cooled with water.

Which of the following is not method of tunneling in hard rock?

Running ground requires instant support throughout the excavation. Examples include dry sand, gravel, silt, mud, and water bearing sand. Hence the Top heading and benching is not the method of tunneling in running ground.

Which rock is most suitable for Tunnling point of view?

Basic tunneling system

Tunnels are generally grouped in four broad categories, depending on the material through which they pass: soft ground, consisting of soil and very weak rock; hard rock; soft rock, such as shale, chalk, and friable sandstone; and subaqueous.

How do you blast a tunnel?

1. Drilling blast holes and loading them with explosives.
2. Detonating the blast, followed by ventilation to remove blast fumes.
3. Removal of the blasted rock (mucking).
4. Scaling crown and walls to remove loosened pieces of rock.

What is tunneling in mining?

Modern mining comprises the mechanized winning of mineral resources in strip or drift mining, whereas tunneling deals with the construction of subterranean road, underground and railroad connections, subterranean installations and their access tunnels, but also with water tunnels (supplying dam plants and power plants) ...

Introduction to Blasting Course

When can the rocks act as natural arch?

9. When can the rocks act as a natural arch? Explanation: When the tunnel axis may be running parallel to the dip direction, the layers offer uniformly distributed load on the excavation. The arch action is said to happen, where the rocks at roof act as natural arches transferring the load onto sides.

Which method can be adopted in case of rock Tunnelling?

Explanation: Blasting is the conventional method which is adopted in case of rock tunneling.

Which geological structure is suitable for tunnel construction?

Rock Type: Igneous rocks will be the best bet as for as construction of safe tunnel is concerned. As they are three dimensionally large rock bodies, hence the chance is that a tunnel may remain in single rock i.e. granite batholith (Fig.

Which of the following methods of tunneling is used in hard rock?

The heading and Benching method of tunneling is used in hard rock cutting. The tunnel cross-section is divided into two parts, the top portion of the tunnel is known as the heading, and the bottom portion is a bench. Usually, this method is adopted for railway tunnels.

What is method of tunneling in hard ground?

The various stages in the construction of tunnel are:

Loading holes and firing the explosives. Ventilation and removing dust. Mucking. Removing ground water.

Is a method of tunneling in soft rock?

Forepoling is an old method of tunnelling through soft ground. In this method, a frame is prepared in the shape of the letter A, placed near the face of the tunnel, and covered with suitable planks. Poles are then inserted at the top of the frame up to a viable depth.

Which geological consideration is suitable for tunneling?

Hard and Crystalline Rocks are the favourites with the tunnel engineers. These are excavated by using conventional rock blasting methods (RBM) and also by tunnel boring machines (TBM) of suitable strength.

What are the geological consideration in tunneling?

Tunnel design, method of its excavation and stability are greatly influenced by following geological conditions: lithology, geological structures and ground water conditions. the strength and extent of lining and, thus the cost of the project.

What are geological considerations involved in the construction of buildings?

In particular, the influence of geology on cut slope stability, soft and hard ground excavation (including tunnelling), bearing capacity, settlement, subsidence and the choice of foundation type are all considered. Particular problems associated with the use of fills and waste materials are also mentioned.

Which method is generally adopted for Tunnelling in firm ground?

Forepoling method is generally adopted for tunnelling in.

Which of the following explosive is used for tunneling in soft rocks?

Ammonia Dynamite is used as an explosive for tunneling in soft rocks.

Which of the following acts a benefit of GIS?

Which of the following acts a benefit of GIS? Explanation: There are a lot of advantages regarding the usage of GIS. They include maintaining geo spatial data, value added products, productivity and efficiency of data, can save time and money etc.

Where can you find this natural rock arch?

• Natural Rock Arches in Arches National Park.
• Natural Rock Arches in Bryce Canyon.
• Natural Rock Arches in Canyonlands National Park.
• Natural Rock Arches in Capitol Reef National Park.
• Natural Rock Arches in Zion National Park.

Where are the natural arches?

Many weather-eroded arches are found in Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM), all located in southern Utah, United States.

How were arches formed?

In winter, snowmelt pools in fractures and other cavities, then freezes and expands, breaking off chunks of sandstone. Small recesses develop and grow bigger with each storm. Little by little, this process turns fractured rock layers into fins, and fins into arches.

What is cut and cover tunnel?

Cut and cover construction involves using excavation equipment to dig a large trench or rectangular hole in the ground which is then covered by a concrete deck. Once the deck is in place, surface activity can largely resume as construction works continue below.

What is the difference between tubes and tunnels?

As nouns the difference between tunnels and tube

is that tunnels is (tunnel) while tube is anything that is hollow and cylindrical in shape.

What are tunnels used for?

Tunnels have many uses: for mining ores, for transportation—including road vehicles, trains, subways, and canals—and for conducting water and sewage.
