Idiosyncratic reactions are unpredictable and not explained by the pharmacologic properties of the drug. An example is the individual with infectious mononucleosis who develops a rash when given ampicillin.

What is a idiosyncratic reaction?

Idiosyncratic drug reactions may be defined as adverse effects that cannot be explained by the known mechanisms of action of the offending agent, do not occur at any dose in most patients, and develop mostly unpredictably in susceptible individuals only.

What is an idiosyncratic drug response?

Idiosyncratic drug reactions (IDRs) are adverse drug reactions that are not related to the known pharmacological properties of the drug occur in only a small percentage of the population and do not show any apparent dose–response relationship.

What is chemical idiosyncrasy?

Idiosyncrasy is an abnormal reactivity to a chemical that is peculiar to a given individual. It could be: An abnormally exaggerated response, or an abnormal lack of response. A response unusual because it requires an unusually small or unusually large dose. An extension of the normal physiological drug effect.

What is idiosyncrasy and allergy?

An Idiosyncrasy causing symptoms like allergy is also called pseudoanaphylaxis and its presentation is similar to that of anaphylaxis. It however does not involve an allergic reaction but is due to direct mast cell degranulation.

Idiosyncratic Reaction (Type B Adverse Drug Reaction) = General Introduction(HINDI)

What is an idiosyncratic type?

If you describe someone's actions or characteristics as idiosyncratic, you mean that they are rather unusual. [...]

What is idiosyncratic toxicity?

Idiosyncratic toxicity can occur when a convergence of risk factors, including drug exposure, tips the risk-benefit balance away from benefit and toward risk.

What is metabolic idiosyncrasy?

Drugs that cause IDILI with evidence of an immune response, such as halothane, are classed as immune idiosyncrasy, whereas those without obvious signs of an immune response have been classed as metabolic idiosyncrasy (Zimmerman, 1999).

What do you mean by idiosyncrasy in short?

If a person has an idiosyncrasy, he or she has a little quirk, or a funny behavior, that makes him or her different. ... Idio seems like it means stupid, but really it is Latin for "one's own," as an idiosyncrasy is one's own particular, usually odd, behavior.

When is the combined effect of two drugs?

When two drugs are used together, their effects can be additive (the result is what you expect when you add together the effect of each drug taken independently), synergistic (combining the drugs leads to a larger effect than expected), or antagonistic (combining the drugs leads to a smaller effect than expected).

What is drug synergy?

Abstract. Two or more drugs that individually produce overtly similar effects will sometimes display greatly enhanced effects when given in combination. When the combined effect is greater than that predicted by their individual potencies, the combination is said to be synergistic.

What is Pseudoallergic reaction?

Pseudo-allergic are defined as those reactions that produce the same clinical symptoms with anaphylaxis but are not IgE mediated, occur through a direct nonimmune-mediated release of mediators from mast cells and/or basophils or result from direct activation.so pseudo-allergic reactions do not require previous contact ...

Which of the following is an example of augmented type of ADR?

Type A Reactions Type A (augmented) reactions result from an exaggeration of a drug's normal pharmacological actions when given at the usual therapeutic dose and are normally dose-dependent. Examples include respiratory depression with opioids or bleeding with warfarin.

What is an idiosyncratic person?

Idiosyncratic means unique to an individual. Albert Einstein famously had lots of idiosyncratic habits. ... One thing that Einstein definitely wasn't was an idiot. Yet idiosyncratic and idiot are related. Idio is ancient Greek for "one's own." An idiosyncratic person is someone who does things in his own way.

What are symptoms of an idiosyncratic reaction to contrast media?

These reactions primarily include fevers, chills, rigors, flushing, dizziness, and, occasionally, hypotension. These reactions can occur even if immunotherapy is administered as long as 2 years before ICM administration.

What is idiosyncratic liver injury?

Idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a rare disease that develops independently of drug dose, or route or duration, of administration. Furthermore, idiosyncratic DILI is not a single disease entity, but rather a spectrum of rare diseases with varying clinical, histologic, and laboratory features.

What are idiosyncratic factors?

Idiosyncratic risk can be thought of as the factors that affect an asset such as the stock and its underlying company at the microeconomic level. ... Company management's decisions on financial policy, investment strategy, and operations are all idiosyncratic risks specific to a particular company and stock.

What is idiosyncrasy in literature?

An idiosyncrasy is an unusual feature of a person (though there are also other uses, see below). It can also mean an odd habit. The term is often used to express eccentricity or peculiarity. A synonym may be "quirk".

When would you see an idiosyncratic response?

Idiosyncratic reactions are unpredictable and not explained by the pharmacologic properties of the drug. An example is the individual with infectious mononucleosis who develops a rash when given ampicillin.

What is an example of an adverse drug reaction?

Examples of such adverse drug reactions include rashes, jaundice, anemia, a decrease in the white blood cell count, kidney damage, and nerve injury that may impair vision or hearing. These reactions tend to be more serious but typically occur in a very small number of people.

What is Type B adverse reaction?

Type B reactions are idiosyncratic, bizarre or novel responses that cannot be predicted from the known pharmacology of a drug and are associated with low morbidity and high mortality.

What is toxicity effect?

noun. an adverse effect of a drug produced by an exaggeration of the effect that produces the therapeutic response.

What is meant by bioavailability?

The ability of a drug or other substance to be absorbed and used by the body. Orally bioavailable means that a drug or other substance that is taken by mouth can be absorbed and used by the body.

Which of the following is a predictable cause of most adverse drug reactions?

Cause. Type A reactions, which constitute approximately 80% of adverse drug reactions, are usually a consequence of the drug's primary pharmacological effect (e.g. bleeding when using the anticoagulant warfarin) or a low therapeutic index of the drug (e.g. nausea from digoxin), and they are therefore predictable.
