Efferent: Motor response back through the L5,S1 roots to the sciatic nerve to its bifurcation. Toe flexors are innervated by the tibial nerve. Toe extensors (extensor hallucis longus, extensor digitorum longus) are innervated by the deep peroneal nerve.

What nerve and plexus is involved with the plantar reflex?

The anterior division of the sacral plexus innervates the hamstrings, quadratus femoris, obturator internus, and gemelli and then continues as the tibial nerve which innervates the foot plantarflexors, intrinsic foot muscles, and sensation to the sole of the foot.

Which nerve plexus supplies the levator scapulae and latissimus dorsi muscles?

The cervical plexus lies on the ventral surface of the medial scalene and levator scapulae muscles. It is formed by ventral rami of the cervical nerves C1 through C4. Each ramus at the C2, C3, and C4 levels divides into two branches, superior and inferior.

What is the function of the posterior Ramus?

The posterior ramus is one of two major branches of a spinal nerve that emerge after the nerve emerges from the intervertebral foramen. The posterior ramus carries information that supplies muscles and sensation to the human back.

For which reflex is the normal response plantar flexion of the foot quizlet?

Babinski reflex, normal response in non-infants. Plantar flexion and drawing together of toes.

Introduction to how reflexes work - reflex arc, monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes

What is the normal response of the plantar reflex quizlet?

A plantar reflex is a normal reflex that involves plantar flexion of the foot, which moves toes away from the shin and curls them down. An abnormal plantar reflex (aka Babinski Sign) occurs when upper motor neuron control over the flexion reflex circuit is interrupted.

For which reflex is the normal response plantar flexion of the foot?

Stroking the lateral part of the sole of the foot with a fairly sharp object produces plantar flexion of the big toe; often there is also flexion and adduction of the other toes. This normal response is termed the flexor plantar reflex.

Which spinal nerves have visceral branches?

The dorsal and ventral rami contain nerves that provide visceral motor, somatic motor, and sensory information, with the dorsal ramus feeding the dorsal trunk (skin and muscles of the back), and the ventral ramus feeding the ventral trunk and limbs through the ventrolateral surface.

Which nerve plexus provides nerve supply to the legs?

The sacral plexus (plexus sacralis) is a nerve plexus that provides motor and sensory nerves for the posterior thigh, most of the lower leg, the entire foot, and part of the pelvis (see the following image). It is part of the larger lumbosacral plexus.

What does C2 nerve innervate?

C1, C2, and C3 (the first three cervical nerves) help control the head and neck, including movements forward, backward, and to the sides. The C2 dermatome handles sensation for the upper part of the head, and the C3 dermatome covers the side of the face and back of the head. (C1 does not have a dermatome.)

Which of the following nerves originates in the lumbosacral plexus?

The nerve that originates in the lumbosacral plexus is the sciatic nerve (letter B). The sciatic nerve originates from both the lumbar and sacral...

What nerve is between C4 and C5?

The C4 and C5 roots give rise to the dorsal scapular nerve that supplies the rhomboids and levator scapulae. C5, as mentioned earlier, along with C3 and C4, contributes to the phrenic nerve that innervates the diaphragm.

Where does the dorsal scapular nerve come from?

The dorsal scapular nerve originates from the fifth cervical spinal nerve (ventral ramus) in the majority (75%) of cases, within the posterior cervical triangle deep to the prevertebral fascia. However, this nerve may also receive some contributions from C4 to T1.

Which nerve is involved in plantar flexion?

The tibial nerve (L4–S2) supplies innervation to (1) the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles (the main plantar flexors of the foot); (2) the tibialis posterior (plantar flexion and inversion); (3) the flexor digitorum longus (plantar flexor and toe flexor); (4) the flexor hallucis longus (plantar flexor and great toe ...

What nerve causes plantar flexion?

The muscles that are used in plantar flexion are innervated by the tibial nerve and often develop tightness in the presence of foot drop.

What nerve goes to bottom of foot?

The peroneal nerve is a branch of the sciatic nerve, which supplies movement and sensation to the lower leg, foot and toes.

Which spinal nerves contribute to lumbosacral plexus?

It is created from lumbar spinal nerves L2, L3, and L4. Its principal function is to supply motor and sensory innervation to the anterior compartment of the thigh. The nerve exits the plexus and enters the femoral triangle, passing just lateral to the femoral artery.

Which nerve pierces the psoas major?

While distinct from the femoral nerve, the genitofemoral nerve originates from the upper lumbar segments L1-L2. It then descends inferiorly, piercing the psoas major muscle before emerging on its anterior surface. The nerve then traverses the retroperitoneum, descending over the anterior surface of the psoas muscle.

What are the 4 nerve plexuses?

Of the four major nerve plexuses (cervical, brachial, lumbar, and sacral), only the brachial plexus and sacral plexus can be assessed satisfactorily in the EDX laboratory.

What is parasympathetic nerve?

The parasympathetic nervous system predominates in quiet “rest and digest” conditions while the sympathetic nervous system drives the “fight or flight” response in stressful situations. The main purpose of the PNS is to conserve energy to be used later and to regulate bodily functions like digestion and urination.[1]

Is the dorsal root afferent or efferent?

The dorsal roots are generally “afferent,” formed by the central projections of the sensory cells, and the ventral roots “efferent,” comprising the axons of spinal motor and autonomic neurons.

What type of nerves are spinal nerves?

• Left long thoracic nerve.
• Left phrenic nerve.
• Left recurrent laryngeal nerve.
• Left spinal nerves. Left cervical spinal nerves. Left c1 spinal nerve. Left c2 spinal nerve. Left c3 spinal nerve. Left c4 spinal nerve. Left c5 spinal nerve. Left c6 spinal nerve. ...
• Left spinal accessory nerve.
• Left splanchnic nerve.
• Left sympathetic chain.

What is the receptor involved in the plantar reflex?

Plantar Reflex- The plantar reflex is elicited by stimulating the cutaneous receptors in the sole of the foot. In adults, stimulation of these receptors causes the toes to flex and move closer together.

What is normal plantar reflex?

The normal plantar reflex consists of flexion of the great toe or no response. ... A positive Chaddock sign refers to dorsiflexion of the great toe after stroking from the lateral ankle to the lateral dorsal foot. A positive Stransky sign refers to an upgoing great toe after flipping the little toe outward.
