It makes sense to use Cassandra when you have a huge amount of data, a huge number of queries but very little variety of queries. Cassandra basically works by partitioning and replicating. If all your queries will be based on the same partition key, Cassandra is your best bet.

What is Cassandra used for?

Apache Cassandra is a free and open-source, distributed, wide-column store, NoSQL database management system designed to handle large amounts of data across many commodity servers, providing high availability with no single point of failure.

When use Cassandra vs MySQL?

Most businesses use Cassandra for write-heavy workloads in the field of Data Science whereas MySQL is preferred for all other types of workloads. Hopefully, this would give you the knowledge to choose the right database according to your needs.

When should I use MongoDB vs Cassandra?

Conclusion: The decision between the two depends on how you will query. If it is mostly by the primary index, Cassandra will do the job. If you need a flexible model with efficient secondary indexes, MongoDB would be a better solution.

Why is Cassandra preferred?

Cassandra is perfect for highly scalable applications in the cloud. The fact that it improves resilience as you add nodes reduces the hardware/resource thirst over time. Its design also makes it a favored data handling platform for copious amounts of data with speed and sustained availability.

CASSANDRA VS MONGODB | MAJOR DIFFERENCES TO CONSIDER

Who should use Cassandra?

If all your queries will be based on the same partition key, Cassandra is your best bet. If you get a query on an attribute that is not the partition key, Cassandra allows you to replicate the whole data with a new partition key. So now you have 2 replicas of the same data with 2 different partition keys.

When should I use NoSQL database?

The structure of many different forms of data is more easily handled and evolved with a NoSQL database. NoSQL databases are often better suited to storing and modeling structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in one database.

Why use MongoDB over Cassandra?

In sum, Cassandra is the modern version of the relational database, albeit where data is grouped by column instead of row, for fast retrieval. MongoDB stores records as documents in JSON format. It has a JavaScript shell and a rich set of functions which makes it easy to work with.

Is Facebook still using Cassandra?

Though Facebook has all but abandoned Cassandra, the technology has gone on to power critical web infrastructure at companies like Twitter, Netflix, even Apple. And DataStax has built a version of the tool for all sorts of other businesses.

Is Cassandra good for JSON?

Cassandra provides support for JSON. You can, of course, store JSON text into Cassandra text columns.

Why Cassandra is fast?

Major reason behind Cassandra's extremely faster writes is its storage engine. Cassandra uses Log-structured merge trees, whereas traditional RDBMS uses B+ Trees as underlying data structure. If you notice "B", you will find that Oracle just like MySQL has to read before write.

What is the best use for Cassandra?

• Time-series data: Cassandra excels at storing time-series data, where old data does not need to be updated. ...
• Globally-distributed data: Geographically distributed data where a local Cassandra cluster can store data and then reach consistency at later points.

How is Cassandra different from SQL?

Cassandra is able to handle high storage. SQL is able to handle moderate storage. As Cassandra facilitates automatic distribution of data, it allows relatively fast data transfer to or from the storage. ... SQL features a fixed schema and hence, it indicates limitations in the database storage.

Is Cassandra good for reads?

Cassandra is very performant on reads when compared to other storage systems, even for read-heavy workloads. As in any database, reads are best when the hot working set fits into memory.

How many Cassandra nodes do I need?

Rule of thumb: Some Cassandra MVPs recommend having no less than 6 nodes in your cluster.

Is Cassandra worth learning?

Open source Apache Cassandra is free, the infrastructure to run it is cheap, and the expertise to use it is not. You'll be investing in your developers and devops team members, and they're worth it! Cassandra is incredibly cost-effective and it positions your applications to grow to web-scale.

Why does Apple use Cassandra?

There are a variety of reasons developers love Cassandra, including its continuous availability, linear scale performance, operational simplicity, and easy data distribution across multiple data centers and cloud availability zones.

Does twitter use Cassandra?

We're using Cassandra in production for a bunch of things at Twitter. ... Our analytics, operations and infrastructure teams are working on a system that uses cassandra for large-scale real time analytics for use both internally and externally. For now, we're not working on using Cassandra as a store for Tweets.

Is Facebook using MySQL?

At Facebook we use MySQL to manage many petabytes of data, along with the InnoDB storage engine that serves social activities such as likes, comments, and shares.

Does Netflix use MongoDB?

Netflix uses three NoSQL tools: SimpleDB, HBase and Cassandra. “The reason why we use multiple NoSQL solutions is because each one is best suited for a specific set of use cases,” Izrailevsky writes.

When should I use MongoDB?

NoSQL databases like MongoDB are a good choice when your data is document-centric and doesn't fit well into the schema of a relational database, when you need to accommodate massive scale, when you are rapidly prototyping, and a few other use cases.

Which is best NoSQL database?

1. MongoDB. MongoDB is the most popular document-based NoSQL database. ...
2. ElasticSearch. This NoSQL database is used if the full-text search is part of your solution. ...
3. DynamoDB. Amazon's NoSQL database is known for its scalability. ...
4. HBase. ...
5. Cassandra.

When should I use NoSQL database Mcq?

• When providing confidentiality, integrity and availability is crucial.
• When the data is predictable.
• When the retrieval of large quantities of data is needed.
• When the retrieval speed of data is not critical.

Which is faster SQL or NoSQL?

As for speed, NoSQL is generally faster than SQL, especially for key-value storage in our experiment; On the other hand, NoSQL database may not fully support ACID transactions, which may result data inconsistency.

When would you use NoSQL vs relational database?

NoSQL databases don't require any predefined schema, allowing you to work more freely with “unstructured data.” Relational databases are vertically scalable, but usually more expensive, whereas the horizontal scaling nature of NoSQL databases is more cost-efficient.
