Thallic. A mode of conidial ontogeny where a conidium is formed from a pre-existing hyphal segment or cell.

What do you mean by Conidiospores?

Noun. 1. conidiospore - an asexually produced fungal spore formed on a conidiophore.

What is conidiophore and Conidiospores?

Definition. A conidium (pl. Conidiogenesis is the formation of asexual spores (conidia or conidiopspores). A conidiophore is simple or branched hypha on which conidia are produced.

What are Macroconidia and Microconidia?

Relatively large and complex conidia are termed macroconidia while the smaller and more simple conidia are termed microconidia. ... The presence/absence of conidia and their size, shape and location are major features used in the laboratory to identify the species of fungus in clinical specimens.

What is Chlamydospores in fungi?

A chlamydospore is the thick-walled large resting spore of several kinds of fungi, including Ascomycota such as Candida, Basidiomycota such as Panus, and various Mortierellales species. It is the life-stage which survives in unfavourable conditions, such as dry or hot seasons.

Types of spores

What is the function of Chlamydospores?

Chlamydospores are thick-walled spores produced vegetatively from mycelial cells, that resist the unfavorable conditions and germinate under the onset of favorable conditions.

What is Chlamydospores and hyphae?

Chlamydospores are produced by many fungi and represent enlarged, thick-walled vegetative cells with varied forms and condensed cytoplasm that form within hyphae or at hyphal tips.

What is Demicyclic rust?

Demicyclic rusts are those which lack the uredinial stage and may be autoecious or heteroecious. ... Gynoconia peckiana is an autoecious demicyclic rust and Gymnosporangium juniperivirginiane is a heteroecious demicyclic rust. Microcyclic rusts are those which produce only the telial stage.

What is the function of Microconidia?

The microconidia can function either as spermatia (male gametes) or as asexual reproductive structures or both. In nature they probably function exclusively in fertilization of protoperithecia.

Which fungi produces Macroconidia?

The pathogenic fungus, Histoplasma capsulatum, exists in nature as a filamentous organism that produces two asexual spores, microconidia and tuberculate macroconidia. The natural habitat of the organism is soil enriched by bird droppings.

What do Conidiospores look like?

The conidia are ovoid or pear shaped, two celled, with the apical cell being larger and globose than the basal cell which is curved and conical. The conidia are hyaline or lightly coloured pink or pale, appear hyaline under a microscope, but pink in masses in culture or on the host.

Are conidia and Conidiospores the same?

Conidium is a type of spores. Conidia are asexual and exogenic spores contrary to endogenous asexual zygomycetous spores or sexual asco- and basidiospores. ... Spores can be produced sexually or asexually. "Conidiospore" is just a rather uncommon way to call spores produced mitotically, and so it is the same as "conidium".

Where are Conidiospores found?

conidium, a type of asexual reproductive spore of fungi (kingdom Fungi) usually produced at the tip or side of hyphae (filaments that make up the body of a typical fungus) or on special spore-producing structures called conidiophores.

What is the difference between Sporangiospores and Conidiospores?

Sporangiospores are produced inside specialized cells called sporangia and remain enclosed in the cells until maturity. Conidia may be produced inside a cell (although not always) but at maturity they will be exposed to the external environment.

What is conidia of Penicillium?

Species of Penicillium are recognized by their dense brush-like spore-bearing structures called penicilli (sing.: penicillus). The spores (conidia) are produced in dry chains from the tips of the phialides, with the youngest spore at the base of the chain, and are nearly always green. ...

In which group conidia is found?

In which group/groups is it found? Hint: Conidia are nonmotile exogenous spores that grow through abstraction at the tips or sometimes on sides of special hyphae known as conidiophores. It is present in members of Actinomycetes.

What type of infection is histoplasmosis?

Histoplasmosis is an infection caused by a fungus called Histoplasma. The fungus lives in the environment, particularly in soil that contains large amounts of bird or bat droppings.

Is Histoplasma a yeast?

Histoplasma is acquired by inhalation of infectious conidia, which are produced by the environmental mycelial form of the fungus. The dimorphism of Histoplasma is evident within the mammalian host where the elevated temperature causes differentiation of the conidia into the virulent yeast form.

How many cells are in a Microconidia?

The Fusarium microconidia always with 1-2 cells and they are spindle or ovoid shaped. So the conidia which have more than two cells are considered as macroconidia.

Which fungicide is highly effective against rust disease?

Plant locally recommended varieties with resistance to leaf rust. Maneb 80% WP applied for Glume Blotch has some effect on leaf rust. Other fungicides such as Bayleton 50% WP may be used effectively. Septoria spp.

Which fungus causes rust disease?

The fungus that causes leaf rust is Puccinia triticina Eriks (formerly known as Puccinia recondita) and mainly attacks the leaves; the one that causes stripe rust is Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici and mainly attacks the leaves and the glume; and the stem rust is caused by the Puccinia graminis f. sp.

Is plant rust harmful to humans?

Yellow flecks on the leaf blades are the first signs of rust disease on turfgrass. The yellow flecks enlarge which cause the leaf epidermis to rupture and release yellow-orange powdery spores. These fungal spores easily get on shoes, mowers, and pets but are not harmful to humans or animals.

What are Arthrospores?

Arthrospores are a very primitive spore type, formed by the breaking up or disarticulation of fungal mycelia. Many yeast-like fungi such as the genera Geotricum and Trichosporon form arthrospores.

How are Zygospores formed?

Zygospores are created by the nuclear fusion of haploid cells. In fungi, zygospores are formed in zygosporangia after the fusion of specialized budding structures, from mycelia of the same (in homothallic fungi) or different mating types (in heterothallic fungi), and may be chlamydospores.

What is Sporangiophore in botany?

sporangiophore (plural sporangiophores) (botany) A receptacle in ferns which bears the sporangia, usually a stalk, but sometimes a scale (as in horsetails). (mycology) A special type of hypha that bears sporangia on the tip.
