: repair of DNA (as of a bacterium) especially by a light-dependent enzymatic reaction after damage by ultraviolet irradiation.

What do u mean by Cistron?

: a segment of DNA that is equivalent to a gene and that specifies a single functional unit (such as a protein or enzyme)

What is meant by the term photoreactivation repair what is meant by the term photoreactivation repair?

Photoreactivation repair refers to the DNA repair system where the re-exposure repairs the UV-damaged DNA under the visible light. It is also called the direct reversal DNA repair mechanism, in which the photolyase enzyme under the action of visible light reverses the effect of UV-radiation on the cells.

What is photoreactivation in microbiology?

Photoreactivation is a type of DNA repair mechanism present in prokaryotes, archaea and in many eukaryotes. It is the recovery of ultraviolet irradiated damages of DNA by visible light. As the name suggests, it is a light dependent process.

What is photoreactivation and under what conditions does this process work?

Photoreactivation, the process in which the enzyme photolyase uses the energy from sunlight to split pyrimidine dimers, is easy to demonstrate. ... Photoreactivation requires exposure to a relatively intense source of visible or UV-A light, so little if any repair occurs under normal laboratory lighting conditions.

What is a cistron Class 12?

Cistron is a DNA segment equivalent to a gene. It is the smallest unit of genetic material which codes for a single polypeptide and functions as a transmitter of genetic information.

What is in a gene?

Genes are made up of DNA. Some genes act as instructions to make molecules called proteins. However, many genes do not code for proteins. In humans, genes vary in size from a few hundred DNA bases to more than 2 million bases.

What is cistron and recon?

Hint: Cistron is a section of a DNA or RNA molecule that codes for a specific polypeptide in protein synthesis, while a muton is the smallest unit in a chromosome that can be changed by mutations and the recon is the gene in real sense capable of synthesizing a polypeptide chain of an enzyme.

What is muton and recon?

A muton is the smallest length of DNA capable of giving rise to new form by mutation, whereas a recon is the smallest unit of DNA that gives rise to new forms by recombination.

What is recon gene?

A term coined by Seymour Benzer for the smallest recombinable unit within a cistron. A region of a gene within which there can be no crossing-over; now known to be a single nucleotide pair.

What is recon in microbiology?

recon. (Science: molecular biology) unit of genetic recombination, the smallest section of a chromosome that is capable of recombination.

What is a gene short definition?

(jeen) The basic unit of heredity that occupies a specific location on a chromosome. Each consists of nucleotides arranged in a linear manner. Most genes code for a specific protein or segment of protein leading to a particular characteristic or function.

What is gene DNA?

Genes are segments of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that contain the code for a specific protein that functions in one or more types of cells in the body. Chromosomes are structures within cells that contain a person's genes. Genes are contained in chromosomes, which are in the cell nucleus.

Where is gene?

Genes are found on tiny spaghetti-like structures called chromosomes (say: KRO-moh-somes). And chromosomes are found inside cells. Your body is made of billions of cells. Cells are the very small units that make up all living things.

Why is UGA a stop codon?

There are 3 STOP codons in the genetic code - UAG, UAA, and UGA. These codons signal the end of the polypeptide chain during translation. ... This occurs because there are no tRNAs with anticodons complementary to the STOP codons.

What is Exon?

Exons are coding sections of an RNA transcript, or the DNA encoding it, that are translated into protein. Exons can be separated by intervening sections of DNA that do not code for proteins, known as introns. ... Splicing produces a mature messenger RNA molecule that is then translated into a protein.

What is exon and intron?

Introns are noncoding sections of an RNA transcript, or the DNA encoding it, that are spliced out before the RNA molecule is translated into a protein. The sections of DNA (or RNA) that code for proteins are called exons. ... Splicing produces a mature messenger RNA molecule that is then translated into a protein.

Can 2 people have the same DNA?

The possibility of having a secret DNA sharing twin is pretty low. Your DNA is arranged into chromosomes, which are grouped into 23 pairs. ... Theoretically, same-sex siblings could be created with the same selection of chromosomes, but the odds of this happening would be one in 246 or about 70 trillion.

What are the 3 types of genes?

Bacteria have three types of genes: structural, operator, and regulator. Structural genes code for the synthesis of specific polypeptides. Operator genes contain the code necessary to begin the process of transcribing the DNA message of one or more structural genes into mRNA.

How much DNA is in a human?

The diploid human genome is thus composed of 46 DNA molecules of 24 distinct types. Because human chromosomes exist in pairs that are almost identical, only 3 billion nucleotide pairs (the haploid genome) need to be sequenced to gain complete information concerning a representative human genome.

What is a gene Class 10?

A gene is a small portion of the DNA, with codes for a particular polypeptide or a protein. In other words, it is the functional unit of the DNA. It is also responsible for the transmission of hereditary characters from the parents to the offspring.

What is gene in zoology?

A gene is an extremely specific sequence of nucleotide monomers that has the ability to completely or partially control the expression of one or more traits in every type of living organism. Genes are formed from deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and, in the case of some viruses, ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymers.

Where are genes located Class 9?

Answer: Genes are located in the chromosomes in the nucleus of the cell.

What is recon short?

Recon is a shortened form of the military term reconnaissance which is defined as the exploration of an area to gain information. An example of recon is a visit across enemy lines to scope out the enemy positions.

What is the function of Recon?

Reconnaissance is a mission to obtain information by visual observation or other detection methods, about the activities and resources of an enemy or potential enemy, or about the meteorologic, hydrographic, or geographic characteristics of a particular area.
