Gluma desensitizer is an aqueous solution containing 5% glutaraldehyde and 35% hydroxyethyl methacrylate. Because glutaraldehyde is a biological fixative, it has been suggested that the dentinal tubules are occluded as an effect of reaction with plasma proteins from dentinal fluid.

How long do the effects of Gluma last?

GLUMA Desensitizer and GLUMA Desensitizer PowerGel have demonstrated their long-term effectiveness of up to 18 months in various clinical studies10. Both GLUMA Desensitizers are fast and non-invasive.

Is Gluma antibacterial?

In a study by Emilson and Bergenholtz,²¹ it was suggested that the antibacterial nature of the Gluma and Denthesive cleanser might be related to the high content of ethylene dianinetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in the materials.

How is Gluma used?

GLUMA Desensitizer and GLUMA Desensitizer PowerGel are indicated for the treatment of hypersensitive dentine. They eliminate pain in exposed cervical areas which do not require restoration, and alleviate or prevent dentinal sensitivity after preparing the teeth to receive direct or indirect restorations.

Does Gluma interfere with bonding?

Gluma had no significant influence on bond strength of the three adhesive systems. Within the limitations of an in vitro investigation it can be concluded that Gluma did not significantly affect the bond strength of any of the adhesive systems tested.

How long does desensitizer last?

Although the above careful treatment of teeth is recommended, this type of tooth desensitizer can stand up to abrasive toothpastes and whitening treatments, lasting up to three years.

What is glutaraldehyde used for in dentistry?

2% glutaraldehyde is now recommended for the sterilisation of surgical instruments, operating areas, dental impressions and root canals during endodontic therapy. Studies have also shown that glutaraldehyde is an effective fixative with minimum side effects, limited penetration and quick acting.

What is the difference between MicroPrime B and G?

MicroPrime is now available in two formulations: original MicroPrime B, proven effective for nearly 10 years and new MicroPrime G, which is an equivalent formula to Gluma* (at a far lower price). MicroPrime G also serves as an ideal antimicrobial when used with self-etch adhesives.
