What do you mean by converging and diverging mirror?

Convergence and divergence of mirrors

If reflected rays converge to a single point after reflection, then this is called as converging behaviour of the mirror . ... If reflected rays appear to diverge from a single point, then this is called as diverging behaviour of the mirror .

What do you mean by diverging mirror?

A convex mirror or diverging mirror is a curved mirror in which the reflective surface bulges towards the light source. Convex mirrors reflect light outwards, therefore they are not used to focus light.

Which is a converging mirror?

A concave mirror, or converging mirror, has a reflecting surface that bulges inward (away from the incident light). Concave mirrors reflect light inward to one focal point. They are used to focus light.

Which is converging and diverging mirror and why?

Answer Expert Verified

In converging mirrors light rays at the focus, while In diverging mirror it diverges the rays. ... Converging mirrors form real, inverted and erect image while Diverging mirrors form erect images. • Converging mirrors have real focus while Diverging mirrors have virtual focus.

Converging & Diverging Mirrors

What is diverging Mirror Class 10?

A convex mirror is also known as a diverging mirror as this mirror diverges light when they strike on its reflecting surface. Virtual, erect, and diminished images are always formed with convex mirrors, irrespective of the distance between the object and the mirror.

What are the uses of converging and diverging mirror?

Concave Mirror Examples

Concave mirrors are used in headlights and torches. The shaving mirrors are also concave in nature since these mirrors can produce enlarged clear images. Doctors use concave mirrors as head mirrors to have a clearer view of eyes, noses, and ears.

What are converging and diverging lenses Class 7?

Converging lenses are lenses which converge the light rays coming towards them, whereas diverging lenses are lenses which diverge the rays coming towards them. A converging lens have positive focal length. ... A diverging lens have negative focal length.

Which is converging lens?

A double convex lens, or converging lens, focuses the diverging, or blurred, light rays from a distant object by refracting (bending) the rays twice. ... This double bending causes the rays to converge at a focal point behind the lens so that a sharper image can be seen or photographed.

What is the converging and diverging lens with diagram?

Converging and Diverging Lens - diagram

Converging lens is convex lens whereas diverging lens is a concave lens. Converging lens converge and focus the light ray to meet at a single point whereas diverging lens, diverge the light falling on its surface and not meet at a single point.

How are converging mirrors and diverging mirrors different?

A concave mirror converges light to a focal point. For lenses, light converges to a point for a convex lens. A convex mirror diverges light, as does a concave lens.

Which mirror is known as diverging mirror?

A convex mirror is sometimes referred to as a diverging mirror due to the fact that incident light originating from the same point and will reflect off the mirror surface and diverge.

Is a concave mirror converging or diverging?

We find that the rays reflect from the concave mirror, and according to the reflection laws the rays converge to a point on the principal axis. The image formed is a real image and this image is formed on the same side of the mirror. Hence, the concave mirror is a converging mirror.

Whats the definition of converging?

1 : to tend or move toward one point or one another : come together : meet converging paths Police cars converged on the accident scene. 2 : to come together and unite in a common interest or focus Economic forces converged to bring the country out of the recession.

What is a converging ray?

(Opt.) rays of light, which, proceeding from different points of an object, tend toward a single point.

What is mean by diverging in physics?

the act, fact, or amount of diverging: a divergence in opinion. (in physics, meteorology, etc.) the total amount of flux escaping an infinitesimal volume at a point in a vector field, as the net flow of air from a given region.

What is converging diverging?

Some of them describe opposing forces, such as divergence and convergence. Divergence generally means two things are moving apart while convergence implies that two forces are moving together.

Is diverging and convex the same?

A diverging lens is a lens that diverges rays of light that are traveling parallel to its principal axis. ... The fact that a double convex lens is thicker across its middle is an indicator that it will converge rays of light that travel parallel to its principal axis. A double convex lens is a converging lens.

Why concave lens is called converging mirror?

All the light rays reflected by concave mirror converges at its focus. Hence, concave mirror is also known as converging mirror.

Why concave mirror is called diverging mirror?

The rays of light diverge from a point behind the mirror which is behind the mirror. Hence the image formed is diminished to a point, virtual. The image can never be produced on a screen. Since the image gets diverged from a point the mirror is known as diverging mirror.

Why is a concave mirror known as a converging mirror and convex mirror as a diverging mirror?

Physical Science

Concave mirror is called as converging mirror because it converges the Ray of light incident parallel to the mirror into a point called focus. Convex mirror is called as diverging mirror as it diverges the Ray incident parallel to the mirror that appears to Meet at a point called focus.

Is diverging concave or convex?

A convex lens or converging lens focuses the light rays to a specific point whereas a concave lens or diverging lens diverges the light rays.

Which mirror is used by dentist?

A concave mirror gives the dentist a magnified reflection of the mouth while also refracting a bit of light. This means the image in the mirror is larger, brighter, and, for the dentist, easier to see.

Which of the two mirrors is diverging concave or convex?

Convex mirrors reflect light outwards (diverging light rays) and therefore they are not used to focus light. The image is virtual, erect and smaller in size than the object, but gets larger (maximum upto the size of the object) as the object comes towards the mirror. Such mirrors are also called diverging mirrors.
