A pressure washer unloader valve diverts the water flow through the bypass when the trigger on the gun is depressed. The Unloader valve is designed to respond to an increase in pressure or a change in water flow. The unloader valve can also be used for adjusting the pressure of your machine.

How do you know if your unloader valve is bad?

Pump motor stalling – if a pump is powered by a gasoline or diesel engine, stalling whenever the operator ceases to use it is a good sign of unloader valve failure. The buildup of pressure locks the pump's internal components, which in turn prevents the rotation of the powered engine shaft.

What happens if unloader valve is bad?

A failed unloader valve can cause high pressure at the nozzle. The unloader valve recirculates water to the pump inlet when the pump is running but the spray wand isn't in use. ... A defective pressure regulator can cause high pressure at the nozzle.

What is the purpose of unloader in air compressor?

A compressor unloader valve is a small part, typically measuring approximately 4-5 inches in length and width. It performs the critical function of releasing trapped air inside the tank, enabling the motor to restart. An unloader valve malfunction is one of the more common air compressor issues.

What is the unloader valve on a compressor?

An air compressor unloader valve is a device used by air compressors to release the trapped air inside the compression chamber and tank discharge line when the motor stops. This allows the motor to start up easier.

How a pressure washer unloader valve works (with cut-away view)

How does an unloading valve work?

Unloading valves are pressure-control devices that are used to dump excess fluid to tank at little or no pressure. A common application is in hi-lo pump circuits where two pumps move an actuator at high speed and low pressure, the circuit then shifts to a single pump providing high pressure to perform work.

Why does my pressure washer dies when I pull the trigger?

A pressure washer stalling when the trigger is pulled is mostly due to a faulty unloader valve, O-rings, pressure washer trigger, or a too-high setting of the unloader valve. ... The unloader valve cycles the water back to the inlet, diverting the flowing through the pump system.

How do you free up a stuck unloader valve?

One way to free a sticking unloader is to crank the engine and rapidly depress/release the handle for a few minutes. If it gets to improving, tie a rag around the handle and lash the want to something and just let it do its thing, see if it doesnt work itself out.

Why do unloader valves fail?

Every time a gun in the system closes, the unloader valve needs to bypass the excess of water, so every gun in the system increases the amount of unloader cycles and the possibility of failure. Dean: Over adjusting of the unloader, thereby creating a high spike pressure will damage the valve and seat.

Do electric pressure washers have unloader valve?

Your electric pressure washer's unloader valve is the mechanism that can divert the flow of the water in your pump system into a loop as soon as you let go of the pressure washer's trigger.

Why does my pressure washer keep turning off?

A clogged carburetor is most often the culprit if your pressure washer shuts off after a few minutes (source). As such, checking the carburetor should be the first thing you do. ... According to this Repair Clinic, when you leave fuel inside the tank of your pressure washer, some parts of it evaporate (source).

Why is pressure washer pulsing?

Why is my pressure washer surging? Water flow may be restricted to the pressure washer. Check that all hoses are free of kinks, leaks, or blockage. ... If the nozzle has even a little bit of dirt in the tip, it may cause enough obstruction for the pressure washer to pulsate.

Is it OK to run pressure washer without water?

Although you can start a pressure washer without water, it is not advisable to do it. ... The water helps to lubricate the pump and help to keep it cool. Without the lubrication and cooling properties of the water, dry starting will cause the pump to wear down quickly.

Can you adjust an unloader valve?

Now while the gun is engaged you can adjust the pressure by turning the adjusting knob between the two nuts and the nylock on top. If you adjust the unloader without the gun engaged, when you do engage the trigger parts in the unloader move rather violently and could damage the unloader.

Why does my pressure washer only runs on choke?

Running only when choked indicates too much air into the simple carb, starving for gas. This is similar to when a motor will only run for a few moments after or while pressing the primer bulb.

What is purpose of using unloading valve?

Purpose. The unloading valves are used for relieving the extra pressure in a system, that is at low pressure and connecting it to the tank when the delivery of the pump is not used.

What is the purpose of a cylinder unloader?

Compressor cylinder unloaders are used to 1) reduce the machine's startup load, 2) prevent an overload when there is an upset in operating conditions, and 3) control gas volumes due to fluctuations in rate requirements.

What is the function of unloading relief valve?

unloading relief valve is used to charge the accumulator by a pump when accumulator pressure falls below the set value and it can be used as an accessory.
