1a : characterized by or subject to rapid or unexpected change a volatile market. b : unable to hold the attention fixed because of an inherent lightness or fickleness of disposition. 2a : tending to erupt into violence : explosive a volatile temper. b : easily aroused volatile suspicions. c : lighthearted, lively.

What is the meaning of volatilization?

Volatilization is the process whereby a dissolved sample is vaporised. ... The analyte is turned into small droplets in a nebuliser which are entrained in a gas flow which is in turn volatilised in a high temperature flame in the case of AAS or volatilised in a gas plasma torch in the case of ICP spectroscopy.

What does it mean if something is volatile?

Volatility describes how easily a substance will vaporize (turn into a gas or vapor). A volatile substance can be defined as (1) a substance that evaporates readily at normal temperatures and/or (2) one that has a measurable vapor pressure. The term volatile usually applies to liquids.

Is volatilization a word?

noun The act or process of volatilizing, etherealizing, or diffusing; the act or process of rendering volatile.

What is the definition for nitrification?

: to convert by oxidation into nitrous acid or nitrates — compare nitrify.

What is nitrification Class 9?

Nitrification: It is the process by which ammonia is converted into nitrites and nitrates.

What is nitrate in nitrification?

Nitrification is the process by which ammonia is converted to nitrites (NO2-) and then nitrates (NO3-). This process naturally occurs in the environment, where it is carried out by specialized bacteria. Ammonia. Ammonia is produced by the breakdown of organic sources of nitrogen.

What is volatilization in plants?

Volatilization is the loss of N through the conversion of ammonium to ammonia gas, which is released to the atmosphere. The volatilization losses increase at higher soil pH and conditions that favor evaporation (e.g. hot and windy).

How do you spell volatilization?

verb (used without object), vol·a·til·ized, vol·a·til·iz·ing. to become volatile; pass off as vapor.

What is the difference between evaporation and volatilization?

As nouns the difference between evaporation and volatilization. is that evaporation is the process of a liquid converting to the gaseous state while volatilization is the conversion of a solid or liquid into a gas; vaporization; evaporation or sublimation.

What is a volatile marriage?

a long-lasting marriage marked by both passionate arguments and expressions of affection, but with more positive than negative interactions.

What does emotionally volatile mean?

adjective. A situation that is volatile is likely to change suddenly and unexpectedly.

What is an example of volatile?

Volatile is defined as a substance that quickly evaporates. An example of volatile is acetone. ... An example of volatile is the quality of the substance acetone.

What causes volatilization?

What causes ammonia volatilization? The process of ammonia volatilization commonly takes place when nitrogen is in an organic form known as urea. Urea may originate from animal manure, urea fertilizers and, to a lesser degree, the decay of plant materials.

How can we reduce volatilization?

Ammonia volatilization can be minimized by applying NH4-forming fertilizers in dry and cool weather and by avoiding application on warm, humid, or windy days.

How does soil lose nitrogen?

Substantial amounts of N are lost from the soil system through crop removal. ... Crop removal accounts for a majority of the N that leaves the soil system. Soil erosion and runoff. Nitrogen can be lost from agricultural lands through soil erosion and runoff.

What is vapor science?

A vapor refers to a gas-phase material that that normally exists as a liquid or solid under a given set of conditions. ... A good synonym (alternate word) for vapor is gas. When a substance turns changes from a solid or liquid into a gas, the process is called vaporization.

What does desiccate mean?

1 : to dry up or cause to dry up : deprive or exhaust of moisture especially : to dry thoroughly uses radio frequencies of 100,000 Hz to 10,000,000 Hz to cut, coagulate, and desiccate tissue — Bettyann Hutchisson et al. 2 : to preserve a food by drying : dehydrate desiccated coconut. intransitive verb.

What is Volatilisation when does it occur?

Ammonia volatilisation: a chemical process that occurs at the soil surface when ammonium from urea or ammonium-containing fertilisers (e.g. urea) is converted to ammonia gas at high pH. Losses are minimal when fertiliser is incorporated, but can be high when fertiliser is surface-applied.

What is volatilization analysis?

Gravimetric analysis is a class of lab techniques that uses changes in mass to calculate the amount or concentration of an analyte. One type of gravimetric analysis is called volatilization gravimetry, which measures the change in mass after removing volatile compounds.

What is the process of volatilization?

Volatilization is the conversion of a liquid chemical into a vapor, which escapes into the atmosphere.

What is mineralized nitrogen?

Nitrogen mineralization is the process by which inorganic nitrogen is obtained by decomposition of dead organisms and degradation of organic nitrogenous compounds. As this process releases ammonium, it is also known as ammonification, although this term is also used for other dissimilatory processes.

What is Ammonification and nitrification?

Ammonification converts organic nitrogenous matter from living organisms into ammonium (NH₄⁺). Denitrification by bacteria converts nitrates (NO₃⁻) to nitrogen gas (N₂). Nitrification by bacteria converts nitrates (NO₃⁻) to nitrites (NO₂⁻). Nitrogen fixing bacteria convert nitrogen gas (N₂) into organic compounds.

What is biological nitrification?

Nitrification is the biological oxidation of ammonia to nitrite followed by the oxidation of the nitrite to nitrate occurring through separate organisms or direct ammonia oxidation to nitrate in comammox bacteria. ... Nitrification is an aerobic process performed by small groups of autotrophic bacteria and archaea.

Which equation explains nitrification?

The chemical equation 2NH3 + 3O2 --> 2NO2 + 2H+ + 2H20 summarizes the entire nitrification process.
