Laticiferous tissue A laticifer is a type of elongated secretory cell found in the leaves and/or stems of plants that produce latex and rubber as secondary metabolites. Usually latex is present in the families of many flowering plants. This substance may be white, yellow or pinkish in color.

What is the function of Laticiferous tissues?

Laticifers were first described by H. A. de Barry in 1877. Laticifers are highly specialized cells which can produce a wide variety of proteins. These proteins include enzymes functioning as proteinases and chitinases which help defend the producing plant against insects and other herbivores.

What is secreted from dermal tissue?

Dermal Tissue

Epidermal cells secrete a waxy substance called cuticle , which coats, waterproofs, and protects the above-ground parts of plants. Cuticle helps prevent water loss, abrasions, infections, and damage from toxins. This tissue includes several types of specialized cells.

Does dermal tissue secrete gum?

Answer: The tissues that are concerned with the secretion of gums, resins, volatile oils, nectar latex, and other substances in plants are called secretory tissues.

Which of these tissues secrete latex?

5.1 Laticiferous Tissue

Laticiferous tissue is composed of thin walled, elongated, branched and multinucleate tube like structures which contain colourless, milky juice called latex. The cells are distributed throughout the ground tissue of the plant body.

What is Laticiferous duct?

3. Laticifer and resin duct. Laticifers and ducts can occur as single structures that often anastomose forming an interconnected network through all organs of the plant, whose viscous and mostly terpenic secretion is only released to the outside by the rupture of the secretory system.

What substances do secretory cells in pines produce?

In Pinus, the epithelial cells are generally thin-walled, remain active for several years and produce abundant resin; the resin is a mixture of substances composed mainly of terpenes.

What is secreted from the dermal layer of gum trees?

Gum is secreted from which layer of gum tree 1)Dermal layer.

What is a plant secretion?

We can, thus, define secretion in plants as the transfer of certain intermediate or end products of metabolism from one region to another within the cell or out of the protoplast to another part of the plant body.

What are the functions of dermal or epidermal tissue system answer?

The epidermis serves many functions: it protects against water loss, regulates gas exchange, secretes metabolic compounds, and absorbs water and mineral nutrients (especially in roots).

What is secretory cavity?

secretory cavities is the result of fixation artifacts. ... Plant secretory cavities and ducts are glands con- sisting of large, secretion-filled spaces lined by spe- cialized glandular cells. Cavities and ducts often con- tain essential oils, resins, or mucilage (Fahn 1979).

What are the components of dermal tissue system?

The dermal tissue system consists of the epidermis and the periderm. The epidermis is generally a single layer of closely packed cells. It both covers and protects the plant.

What is dermal tissue in plants What are the features inside this tissue?

Dermal tissue covers and protects the plant, and controls gas exchange and water absorption (in roots). Dermal tissue of the stems and leaves is covered by a waxy cuticle that prevents evaporative water loss. Stomata are specialized pores that allow gas exchange through holes in the cuticle.

What are Laticiferous plants?

Laticifers are highly specialized cells forming a tube-like network structure throughout the plant body, occurring in phylogenetically unrelated groups. Laticifers produce and store latex that is released upon rupture of laticifers. ... Plants exude latex sap in response to physical damage.

Do all plants produce Laticifers?

Latex is produced in approximately 12,500 plant species, representing approximately 10% of all flowering plants. Laticiferous species belong to 900 genera in approximately twenty plant families growing in a variety of ecological settings. Thus laticifers appear to be polyphyletic in origin.

Is gum is secreted by Xylem?

Answer: Gum is secreted from the dermal layer of gum tree. The dermal layer protects the plants from loss of water, mechanical damage and invasion by parasitic and disease causing organisms. In big trees the dermal tissue forms several layers above the epidermis.

Do plants secrete?

Plants need to excrete excess carbon dioxide and oxygen. Carbon dioxide is a waste product of aerobic respiration in plant cells. Oxygen is a waste product of photosynthesis .

Which is internal secretory tissue?

Internal Secretory Structures of Plant Tissues: The internal secretory structures may be composed of a single cell or of groups of cells. They may occur throughout a tissue (e.g., oils or enzymes) or may be localised in distribution.

Which tissue gives mechanical support to the plant?

Collenchyma. Collenchyma cells have thick walls that are especially thick at their corners. These cells provide mechanical support for the plant.

Where is the gum secreted from?

Gums and gum resins of wood and bark are produced by duct structures that have close morphological similarities to resin-producing ducts. Gum-secreting epithelial cells also line the gum ducts, with their Golgi bodies being the site of (carbohydrate) synthesis, transport, and secretion.

What is formed when dermal tissue forms several layers above epidermis?

e) In big trees the dermal tissue forms several layers above the epidermis. It is called bark.

Which of the following is the outermost layer of dermis?

The epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone.

What substances do secretory cells produce?

Secretory cells of the airway also produce mucous, a fluid comprised of mucin proteins, antimicrobial peptides, and soluble chemical mediators that contribute to the epithelial lining fluid of the conducting airways (Fahy and Dickey, 2010).

What are secretory cells?

Secretory cells are tall columnar cells containing secretory granules in their cytoplasm. The marks of proteosynthetic activity are represented by numerous, well-developed profiles of the Golgi apparatus and granular endoplasmic reticulum.

What do the resin ducts do in plants?

Pine needle resin serves as defense against insects and other animals, which confront the distasteful substance when boring into the conifer's leaves. The resins may disrupt the feeding, digestion or metabolic function of the attacker.
