A furnace inducer motor is essentially a motor-driven fan, with an electrical box for power connections and metal housing. Your motor should move air through the furnace and heating vent pipes. ... Cleaner air means a safer and more efficient furnace.

How much does it cost to replace furnace inducer?

Although the range can be anywhere from $85 to $1,150, the average cost of replacing a furnace inducer motor is typically between $245 and $465. When the damaged or broken part is under warranty and all you're paying for is labor to have it installed you can expect to pay around $245.

How long do furnace inducer Motors last?

A: On average, you can expect a well-built inducer motor to last around 20 years.

What causes inducer motor failure?

Most inducer motors failures are simply attributed to the older age of the furnace. In most cases, the internal bearings wear out and since the unit is a sealed unit, there is no way to repair the original motor. Instead the unit is simply replaced with a new one.

How do you know if your furnace inducer motor is bad?

One of the first indications of a bad draft inducer motor is likely to be the sound it makes. A failing inducer motor may create a noise shortly after a heating cycle begins. This could be a tapping noise, or a humming or whirring sound.

Troubleshooting a Furnace Inducer Motor (The 4 Most Common Problems in 2021)

What is a inducer motor on furnace?

A draft inducer is a fan that's located inside of your furnace near the heat exchanger. ... By turning on before your furnace ignites its burners, the draft inducer is able to clear out any combustion gases that might be lingering in the heat exchanger from the previous heating cycle.

Are inducer motors loud?

A draft inducer (or vent blower) is the most common problem on a gas furnace or boiler to cause a noticeable noise. ... The small motor mounted within the housing can begin to make noise when there is buildup on the wheel (such as sulfur or creosote) or when the motor is close to the end of its usable life.

What is the purpose of the inducer motor?

The draft inducer motor was introduced when the government mandated efficiency standards for furnaces. The purpose of the inducer motor is to move air and gasses out of the furnace and up through the heating vents. This determines how much and how fast air will flow through the heat exchanger.

How does an inducer motor work?

The inducer motor turns on and draws combustion air into the furnace. This helps to make sure the gas is burning efficiently. Next, an ignitor will either glow or spark to ignite the gas that starts flowing. This gas ignites into flames while the hot air and obnoxious gases are drawn into the heat exchanger.

Where is the inducer motor on a furnace?

The Draft Inducer

A draft inducer is, in essence, a small fan located inside of the exhaust flue at the far end of a furnace's heat exchanger. Electrical wires connect this fan to the furnace, such that it will turn on between 30 and 60 seconds before ignition commences.

How much does it cost to replace furnace motor?

How much does a furnace motor replacement cost? On average nationwide, a furnace blower motor replacement costs $400-$600, including parts and labor. A single-speed blower motor costs around $450 to replace while a variable-speed motor costs $600+.

Can I replace my furnace inducer motor?

$245 – $465, Installed

The cost to replace a draft inducer motor in your gas furnace is between $245 to $465, depending on whether the parts and/or labor are covered by the furnace manufacturers warranty or not.

How much is an inducer motor for a Carrier furnace?

The average cost of a Carrier inducer motor replacement is between $800-$1800.

How much does it cost to replace an induction motor?

A replacement draft inducer motor will cost between $500 and $700. These motors are specific to manufacturers, so it can be harder to find the exact model needed. Technicians may not have the specific model on hand during emergency repair jobs at odd hours. Repairs cost less, with prices ranging from $250-$450.

Is it OK to run furnace fan constantly?

As previously mentioned, newer models of furnace systems include fans that are designed to run continuously. Assuming that your heating equipment was properly installed by a professional and has correctly-sized ductwork, letting the fan run continuously may actually help extend its service life.

Is an inducer motor the same as a blower motor?

When the furnace receives a signal to begin heating, the draft inducer motor begins spinning. Doing so removes dangerous gases produced during the previous heating cycle, such as carbon monoxide. ... In essence, the draft inducer motor is nothing more than blower motor, fan, and electrical box.

What are the two motors on a furnace?

There are two different types of blower motors for your forced air system, the PSC (permanent split capacitor) and ECM (electronically commutated motor). PSC motors were the old standard, and if your furnace is over 5 years old it probably has one.

Why does my electric furnace sound like a jet engine?

Furnace Sounds Like a Jet Engine

If your furnace sounds like an airplane or jet engine taking off, it's usually a gas issue. Gas could be leaking from a line or valve. Or, if you hear a click before the swooshing sound, you may have a broken heat exchanger that is leaking gas. ... Gas leaks can become emergencies.

What is the function of induced draft fan?

Induced draft fans or ID fans are used in systems such as steam boilers and thermal oil heaters to draw out and remove flue gases from combustion chambers, by creating a vacuum of negative air pressure (typically -10 mm Hg).

What is the purpose of a combustion air inducer in a gas furnace?

A combustion inducer blower is a unit used in heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment such as furnaces. The inducer blower draws air through the furnace's combustion passageway to promote a more efficient running of the combustion, and to allow thorough heat transfer.

Can you clean inducer motor?

Spray compressed air where the motor meets the blower wheel housing. This removes dust and dirt away from the blower motor shaft. Wipe the top of the motor with a clean rag to remove dust and dirt from around the oil ports.
