=> In most of the algae, aquatic fungi, Bony fishes and amphibians, syngamy occurs outside the body of the organism, in the medium of water. => In certain algae and fungi, bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms and most of the animals, syngamy occurs inside the body of the organism.

Where does plant syngamy occur?

Note: - The fusion of the male gamete with the female gamete to form a zygote is termed as Syngamy. The resulting zygote eventually develops in the new organism. - The fusion of gametes usually takes place in water i.e outside the body of the plant in most of the algae.

Does syngamy occur in angiosperms?

While in many terrestial organism belonging to fungi, in a majority of plants (Bryophytes, pteridophytes, Gymnosperm and Angiosperms) and in higher animals such as reptiles, birds, mammals, syngamy occur inside the body of organism, hence known as Internal-fertilisation.

Does algae syngamy occur?

Syngamy is the complete and permanent fusion of male and female gametes to form the zygote. ... In majority of algae, external fertilization occurs.

In which organism syngamy occurs outside?

Explanation: In most aquatic organisms, such as a majority of algae and fishes as well as amphibians, syngamy occurs in the external medium (water) i.e., outside the body of the organism. This type of gametic fusion is called external fertilisation.

BRYOPHYTES

Where does syngamy occur in external fertilization?

Syngamy occurs in the external medium, i.e. the outside of the body of the organism is called external fertilisation.

What process will occur if syngamy does not occur?

Syngamy is the process of fusion of male gamete with female gamete resulting in the formation of zygote which develops into offspring. If syngamy does not takes place, there will be no zygote formation, hence no new generation produced.

Where does syngamy occur in most algae?

Syngamy occurs outside the body of the algae in majority cases. Syngamy occurs generally in water(ie. external medium),this type of fertilisation is called external fertilisation.

Why does syngamy occur Class 12?

The process of fusion of male and female gametes to form a zygote is called fertilization or syngamy. In this type of fertilization, syngamy occurs outside the body of organism. Example- in most aquatic organisms like algae, fish, amphibians.

What syngamy means?

: sexual reproduction by union of gametes : fertilization.

Does syngamy occur in birds?

In birds and reptiles, the fertilisation of egg and sperm takes place inside the body to form zygote. ...

Where does syngamy occur in amphibians and reptiles?

In amphibians, syngamy occurs in water outside the body of the organism (external fertilisation and external development). In reptiles, syngamy occurs inside the body of the female (internal fertilisation and external development).

Where does syngamy occur in fishes?

(a) In fishes and amphibians, syngamy occurs in external medium, i.e., outside the body of the organism (external fertilisation). In reptiles and mammals, syngamy occurs within the body of the organism (internal fertilisation).

When syngamy occurs inside the body of the organism The process is called internal fertilization it is observed in?

Fertilization is also known as syngamy so in case of internal fertilization syngamy of gametes occurs inside the female body after insemination through copulation process by the male. B. This is seen in birds, mammals, birds occurring in terrestrial plants and animals, also in some of the aquatic entities.

What would happen if syngamy does not occur Class 12?

If no syngamy occurs, there will be no zygote formation, hence no new generation produced.

What are Homogametes or Isogametes?

Homogametes are also known as isogametes. Homogametes are similar in morphological appearance and male and female gametes can't be distinguished. For example, in Rhizopus. Heterogametes are the gametes that are morphologically dissimilar and thus, male and female gametes can be distinguished.

Which is formed by syngamy?

Syngamy (frequently labeled by “Y!”), is the fusion of two cells, resulting in a cell that has twice as many chromosomes. The two cells which are fused together are called gametes, and the resulting cell is a zygote.

Why fertilization is also called syngamy?

Fertilization involves the fusion of two gametes of opposite sex. This is called—syngamy. ... In fertilization, the haploid nuclei of the gametes are brought together. A more or less intimate fusion of the gamete nuclei takes place (karyogamy).

What is fusion of male and female gametes?

The term used to describe the male and female gametes fusion is fertilization. Fertilization can be described as the fusion of the male gametes (pollen) with the female gametes (ovum) to form a diploid zygote.

Which structure helps asexual reproduction in algae and fungi?

Spores become a part of the life cycles of many plants, algae, fungi, and protozoa. The motile reproductive structures of algae and fungi, which directly give rise to new individuals are known as the zoospores which is an asexual motile spore. The zoospores use flagella for their locomotion.

Are algae asexual?

Algae regenerate by sexual reproduction, involving male and female gametes (sex cells), by asexual reproduction, or by both ways. ... Many small algae reproduce asexually by ordinary cell division or by fragmentation, whereas larger algae reproduce by spores.

How do gametes meet?

The male gamete, or sperm, and the female gamete, the egg or ovum, meet in the female's reproductive system. When sperm fertilizes (meets) an egg, this fertilized egg is called a zygote (ZYE-goat). The zygote goes through a process of becoming an embryo and developing into a fetus.

Does that mean that meiosis never occurs in organisms?

Meiosis reduces the chromosome number to half. This can occur only in diploid organisms. But in some cases the gametes produced by haploid organism ( through mitosis) fuse together by fertilisation to form a zygote (diploid) which can umdergo meiosis. This is possible only in sexually reproducing organisms.

What do you understand by parthenogenesis?

Parthenogenesis is a form of reproduction in which an egg can develop into an embryo without being fertilized by a sperm. Parthenogenesis is derived from the Greek words for “virgin birth,” and several insect species including aphids, bees, and ants are known to reproduce by parthenogenesis.
